HANOVER — A 16-year-old girl remains in critical condition following a near-drowning in the Crow River Sunday afternoon, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl was part of a family trio spending the afternoon on the river in Hanover, near Mill Pond Trail, with her and her mother on paddleboards and a 15-year-old boy in a kayak, according to the incident report.

At approximately 1:11 p.m., Wright County deputies responded to a report of a possible drowning after the three ended up in the river.

During the excursion, all three ended up colliding with trees that were overhanging into the river causing them to fall into the water, the WCSO said.

The mother as well as the boy were able to get free from the overhanging tree, but the girl reportedly became stuck and was pulled under water.

She was pulled from the water by her father and another bystander, according to the report. Lifesaving procedures were administered by deputies, Allina paramedics and Hanover Fire Department personnel.

First responders were able to obtain a pulse from the unresponsive teen and she was transported by air care to the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital.

Evidence and statements from those at the scene indicate the girl was wearing a life-jacket at the time of the incident.

The incident is under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
