Florida Woman Flees Scene of DWI Crash in Chautauqua County
(WNY News Now) – A Deltona woman faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing a property damage accident and driving under the influence in Chautauqua County. On July 5, 2024, at approximately 3:34 PM, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident near the Kwik Fill gas station on Route 5 and 20. Before the deputies arrived, one of the drivers fled the scene, heading southbound on Alleghany Road.
Meteorology professor discusses tornadoes in Western New York
Four tornadoes — two in Erie County, one in Chautauqua County and one in Genesee County — touched down in Western New York, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo. The strongest of those, an EF-2 that touched down in the Town of Eden, reached wind speeds of up to 115 mph and caused the “total destruction” of “multiple” buildings. A state of emergency was declared in Eden, and the town is still recovering.

Local Children Depart for NYS Sheriffs' Institute Summer Camp
Several Chautauqua County children between the ages of 9 and 12 have made the trip to the Finger Lakes area for the New York State Sheriffs' Institute Summer Camp. The camp, located in Penn Yan on the shores of Keuka Lake, is for boys and girls who, because of economic reasons, would not have an opportunity to attend a summer camp or enjoy a summer vacation. At the camp, kids are technology-free as they make new friends, enjoy the outdoors, and try new things like fishing and sailing. While there, campers interact positively with law enforcement who are there as counselors and volunteers complementing the camp staff. Hundreds of kids each year attend the summer camp at no cost to their families due to the generosity of donors.
