29MADISONVILLE 0715 Often in law enforcement, an arrest can be made when one crime has a link to another one. The other night when the M-P-D stopped an interstate driver for speeding, it was learned that he had violated his foreign Emergency Protection Order. A search of the Kia Forte belonging to 30-year-old Phil Lucas of Lithonia-Georgia produced a baggie of marijuana and a loaded C-Z handgun. It was found that the handgun violated his California E-P-O.
Madisonville to welcome hot air balloons in August with new event
The City of Madisonville is gearing up for a new event, as they welcome Illuminated Hot Air Balloon Glow to the skies on August 30. It will take place August 30 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Mahr Park Arboretum at 55 Mahr Park Drive in Madisonville, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets and come view an amazing display of colorful, giant hot air balloons.

Murray State University has announced that the Badgett family and the J. Rogers Badgett Sr. Foundation of Madisonville, Kentucky, have made a significant multi-year commitment to the College of Education and Human Services through the Murray State University Foundation. The Badgett family has a rich history of supporting education throughout western Kentucky and began their support of Murray State more than 15 years ago. The family honors the legacy of Mr. Rogers Badgett, who established the Badgett Construction Company and Badgett Mine Stripping Corporation (1943-1976). Mr. Badgett was known as a “Working Man’s Man”; however, he understood the need for formal education and support. Throughout his life, he found many ways to encourage and promote the importance of higher education.
