HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Firework stands say business it low this year and they attribute the decrease to the incoming weather.

“It hasn’t been crazy like in other years and I want to believe that it’s because of what’s going on out at sea right now,” said Lupe Gonzalez, owner of Big G’s fireworks.

The firework stand owner says people are being more frugal when it comes to spending on fireworks with the threat of a hurricane on the horizon.

Gonzalez said typically, when they open up shop, customers come flooding in to buy fireworks.

“Right now it’s been about seven to eight days and we are starting to see the people trickle in a little bit but according to the sales records that we have it doesn’t compare to other years,” he said.
