GiGi's Bakery & Cafe is a Sweet New Business in Hasbrouck Heights

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - Sweet tooths and coffee enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as GiGi’s Bakery & Cafe has opened its doors on the Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights.

The storefront has been open for about a month, and store co-owners Kimberly Valencia, Brigette Valencia, and Kevin Alvarez, say that business has been “really amazing” and “an incredible experience.”

Sisters Kimberly and Brigette explained that the name “GiGi” stemmed from an old nickname that their little brother used to call Brigette.

The story of how GiGi’s Bakery & Cafe came to be, began in 2020. Kimberly recalls how Brigette began baking.

“She started to bake at home because we were all locked up. She was bored and started watching videos about baking and little by little she started getting customers. Her customers were growing on social media, too,” said Kimberly.

“It’s been four years since all that happened, so the three of us sat down, and we were talking about actually having a store. We have always dreamed about having something like that,” she added.

Now, after four years of working strictly at home, their dreams of owning a brick and mortar store have finally come true.

Alvarez, a former real estate agent, was able to find a listing in Hasbrouck Heights with the help of Keller Williams Realty Group. The space was previously Spindler’s Bakery. Upon arrival, they “fell in love with the town.”

Alvarez, who is originally from New York, was shocked at the kindness of the people of Hasbrouck Heights.

“The fact that you're able to cross the street, and they actually stop and let you cross the street – that's something you don't see anywhere, especially not New York City!” observed Alvarez.

“This town is friendly, and they seem like very warm and welcoming people. The energy out here is good,” Alvarez said.

The bakery and café offers a variety of products, including various breads, sandwiches, espresso drinks, pastries, cakes, cake pops, cookies, and more. They also make custom cakes upon request.

Alvarez explained that they specialize in New York Style cookies, as well as their Tres Leches cakes.

The staff is excited to experiment with new flavors for their New York-style cookies. Current flavors include: Red Velvet, Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Chip, Nutella, and Oatmeal Raisin.

Additionally, Kimberly noted that their Yuca Bread has been extremely popular, which is an Ecuadorian delicacy made from cassava flour.
The Valencias and Alvarez hope to have a formal grand opening in September or October to be sure that residents are back home from their summer festivities.

GiGi’s Bakery & Cafe is located at 247 Boulevard, Hasbrouck Heights, and open 8AM-8PM Monday through Saturday and 8AM-5PM on Sunday.
