HAVERSTRAW — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old man accused of fatally shooting Christian Alvarado on July 1.

Police have re-released a wanted poster for Yandie Martinez with the $5,000 incentive to get information on his whereabouts. Police have sought Martinez for questioning since the 29-year-old Alvarado died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said Alvarado was shot while driving, causing the Pomona resident to crash his vehicle into a parked car opposite 9 Fairmount Ave. near West Street. Officers responding to gunfire reports found Alvarado shot at about 4 p.m. on July 1. They helped remove him from the car as EMS technicians provided medical aid.

Alvarado was later pronounced dead at Montefiore-Nyack Hospital.

Police Chief John Gould hasn't released information on how the police centered on Martinez. He has said Martinez and Alvarado knew one another but the reason behind the shooting remained speculative.

Police describe Martinez on a wanted poster as 6 feet, 170 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and tattoos on his neck and forearm. Martinez is considered armed and dangerous.

The police search with federal and state agencies for Martinez has expanded across the country and outside the United States, Gould said.

Gould said the Haverstraw Town Board approved the reward money for Martinez's capture. He has said the shooting was not random.

"We have been following up on multiple leads but nothing has panned out," Gould said on Monday.

"We do not have a motive for the homicide at this point," he has said. "We do not know what they were feuding about. We have heard many theories but nothing that can be confirmed."

The shooting Monday marked the fourth homicide in Rockland in 2024. The others occurred in Stony Point, Spring Valley, and Ramapo. Rockland police investigated four homicides in 2023.

Haverstraw police are also investigating two other unresolved homicides. Eric Quinones, 33, was found shot dead in an apartment complex parking lot on Route 202 in 2023. Andy Urena-Marrero, 23, was shot dead in his yard in 2020.
