Throughout the summer, we’re inviting you to share your best shots from sporting events featuring individuals and/or teams from Hawkins County. Any age group, any level, win or lose.

This edition’s Shots of the Week segment features the East Tennessee Strikers. The photos were submitted by Jeff Gray.

The East Tennessee Strikers 16U fast-pitch softball team went undefeated to win the Dark Knight Night Tournament on July 20 in Knoxville. The Strikers defeated Alliance 18U, 6-2, in the championship game.

Sydney New, a rising sophomore at Volunteer, participated in the home run derby and hit 15 bombs in 24 attempts to capture the high school division home run title.

The Strikers squad is made up of players from all over Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. The team’s home field is Mount Carmel City Park. Its coaches are Gray, Brad New and Jamie Weston.

Team members are (front row) Timber McLain, Volunteer; (second row) Madison Holder, Church Hill Middle; Mackynlee Johnson, Sullivan East; Jayden Ford, Volunteer; Avery Weston, Lee High; (third row) Sydney New, Volunteer; Ava Hendrix, Unicoi County; Ainsley Craft, Science Hill; Raylie Gray, Volunteer; and Gabbi Martinez, Volunteer.
