In charges filed Monday July 1 with the Sawyer County Circuit Court, a Hayward man, Dabid N. Flores, 20, is accused of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in a June 21, 2024 rollover crash five miles south of Hayward in which passenger 19-year-old Reese Frederick of Hayward was killed.

Dabid Flores, of 14978W Goss Road, Hayward, also is charged with two felony counts of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle in the crash, in which two Hayward girls, ages 16 and 17, were critically injured. One of the girls has been identified in social media as Olivia Beaulieu, 16. The other girl is identified only by her initials in the criminal charges.

Flores is being held on a $50,000 cash bond in the Sawyer County Jail pending his initial court appearance on July 9.

At 3:16 a.m June 21, the Sawyer County dispatch center received a 911 call reporting a single-vehicle rollover with multiple injuries on Highline Road south of the intersection with Williams Road in the town of Bass lake.

Initial investigation indicates that a 2005 Ford Explorer operated by Dabid Flores, 20, of Hayward was northbound on Highline Road at a high rate of speed. Flores lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn multiple times and come to rest in the east ditch line of the northbound lane.

Three passengers in the Flores vehicle, Reese J Frederick, 19, of Hayward, a 17 year old female and a 16 year old female, also from Hayward, were ejected from the vehicle.

Frederick was found in the east ditch line. He received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Flores told an officer that the three passengers were sitting in the back seat of the vehicle. He stated he had “a couple drinks” and that the other people in the vehicle were drinking as well. He stated that he drank two or three Twisted Teas and that he “wrecked trying to avoid a deer and we were going like 80 (mph).” He said they were “going 60 at first, but they wanted me to go faster.”

The 16 and 17 year old female passengers sustained life threatening injuries and were transported to a Minnesota hospital for medical treatment. Flores received minor injuries and was treated and released from the Hayward hospital. A blood sample was drawn from him and sent to the state crime lab.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, assisted by the City and Town of Hayward police departments, Lac Courte Oreilles Police Department, Sawyer County EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol, Town of Bass Lake and Town of Hayward fire departments.
