Standout HBCU offensive tackle Anim Dankwah of Howard University has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles during Tuesday’s mandatory cutdown day for the NFL. All teams are required to cut rosters from 90 to 53 by 4 pm on August 27.

Dankwah signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft. The Eagles initially liked the tackle’s 6 foot 8 frame and he drew similarities to Eagles All-Pro tackle, Lane Johnson. With Lane Johnson being on the back end of his career, many scouts believed that Dankwah could be groomed as a possible future replacement.

The Philadelphia Eagles will try to retain Anim Dankwah to their practice squad if he does clear waivers. He is expected to draw interest from other NFL teams.

    About Anim Dankwah

Hailing from Accra, Ghana, the 6’8″ and 365-pound lineman began playing football after moving from Ghana to Canada where he began his career at St. Roch Catholic Secondary School.

Anim officially made his debut in football during his junior year of high school. He would then find himself in the United States in 2018 attending Taft High School in Watertown, CT.

Dankwah was named to the MEAC All-Conference Second Team and the Phil Steele FCS All-MEAC Third Team in his junior year. During the 2022 season, Dankwah was the Shrine Bowl HBCU Offensive Player of the Week and played a crucial role in helping Howard University secure a share of the MEAC regular season championship. He helped Howard bring home the 2023 MEAC title — the program’s first outright MEAC title since 1993.

He played nearly 40 games for the Bison, competing primarily at the left tackle position. During his tenure, he anchored one of the conference’s top-ground attacks while protecting the quarterback’s blindside. The Ontario native received several accolades, including BOXTOROW All-America and All-MEAC First Team honors twice. Off the field, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and strategic & legal communications.
