HEBRON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was deployed in Hebron on Saturday night after an alleged domestic violence dispute.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), deputies were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. to the 2400 block of Winter Woods Court in Hebron in response to reports of a domestic violence dispute in the area.

When deputies arrived, an initial investigation showed that a woman at the home had confronted 30-year-old Richard Kelly about his drinking, reportedly causing a domestic dispute.

Authorities said the woman tried to leave the home, but Kelly, who was allegedly intoxicated, blocked her from exiting and “reportedly armed himself with a handgun and threatened to hurt her if she tried to leave,” per a news release.

The woman began recording the alleged dispute with Kelly, who the BCSO said could be heard “making threats to kill the victim and her family.”

The woman was eventually able to safely leave the home and showed the recordings to nearby deputies, while also letting them know that Kelly “possessed multiple firearms,” according to law enforcement.

Kelly reportedly barricaded himself inside the home while deputies attempted to negotiate with him. Eventually, a SWAT team was activated and arrived around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the BCSO.

Law enforcement said around 1:10 a.m., Kelly walked out of the home in compliance with SWAT demands and was arrested.

Kelly was charged with third-degree terroristic threatening, menacing, and first-degree unlawful imprisonment, per the sheriff’s office.
