    A 20-tackle performance highlights the top prep performers in Manitowoc and Sheboygan

    There was plenty of high school sports action to look back on from the past week .

    Here are the top prep performers from the week of Aug. 19-24 in Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties .

    There won’t be a set number of players chosen in each sport in a given week, just including performances which stood out and deserve recognition.

    This means there might be more or less than the week previous.

    Another criteria is to limit selections to one player per team, per sport.

    Football

    Erick Burns, New Holstein: Burns ran the ball 21 times for 129 yards on Thursday in a 22-13 victory over Random Lake/Ozaukee. He also caught one pass, an 83-yard touchdown from Landon Floyd, to give him more than 200 yards of total offense.

    Brett Shutter, Plymouth: Shutter gained 166 yards on 16 carries, scoring three touchdowns, to help Plymouth roll past Menasha on Thursday 34-18.

    Parker Maney, Reedsville: The Panthers quarterback, a 2,000-yard rusher in 2023, was at it again on Friday to help the Panthers eke out a 13-12 victory over Mishicot. Maney ran 25 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns while going 7-for-10 for 69 yards passing.

    Bryce Gullixon, Kiel: The Raiders bested Sheboygan Falls on Friday 34-6 with Gullixon playing a large part. He carried the ball 18 times for 152 yards while scoring a pair of touchdowns.

    Tyler Konrad, Sheboygan North: The Golden Raiders routed Kewaskum on Friday 36-0 as Konrad rushed six times for 107 yards including two scores. He was also 3-of-6 passing for 26 yards.

    Landon Chalupny, Roncalli: Chalupny was efficient through the air for the Jets on Friday, guiding them to a 19-13 victory over Manitowoc Lutheran. He went 15-of-20 for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

    Braeden Veldboom, Oostburg: Defense was where Veldboom made his name on Friday in a narrow 11-8 win over Southern Door, tallying 20 total tackles.

    Austin Fisher, Valders: Fischer broke the century mark on the ground for the Vikings in a 56-12 loss on Friday against Xavier. He toted the rock 15 times for 104 yards and a touchdown.

    Nolan Aponte, Cedar Grove-Belgium: Aponte was busy for the Rockets in a 33-28 loss to Mayville on Friday. He caught eight passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

    Sophomore sensation: This all-state Manitowoc Lincoln volleyball sophomore is eying an NCAA DI scholarship

    Girls tennis

    Kylie Vang, Sheboygan North: Vang won her match at No. 4 singles on Thursday 6-1, 6-0 over New Berlin West’s Aubree Allen. The Golden Raiders prevailed 4-3 as a team in the dual.

    Clara Kautzer, Kohler: Kautzer prevailed at No. 3 singles on Monday, taking down Alice Cole of St. Mary Catholic in a three-set thriller 6-4 , 4-6 , 11-9. The Blue Bombers dropped the match as a team, 5-2.

    Abby Wiskirchen, Plymouth: Wiskirchen rallied in a marathon tiebreak set over Roncalli’s Lily Giesen on Tuesday in their No. 1 singles match, winning 6-1, 2-6 , 16-14. The Panthers won the dual 6-1.

    Jordin Popp, Manitowoc Lincoln: Popp dropped just one game in her No. 1 singles match on Friday, defeating Kayla Peterman of Stevens Point 6-0 , 6-1 as the Ships fell 4-3 as a team.

    Zoe Sisel, Roncalli: Sisel helped Roncalli defeat Manitowoc Lincoln 4-3 on Friday, winning her No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-0 over the Ships’ Sophia Levihn.

    Riley Pelletiere, Sheboygan Falls: On Thursday, the Falcons bested Kohler 5-2 with Pelletiere knocking off the Blue Bombers’ Vivianne Torke 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

    Girls golf

    Callaway Goodman, Kiel: Goodman carded a 44 to earn medalist honors at Tuesday’s dual against Plymouth, which was won 262-282 by the Panthers. It was the first-ever competition for the Kiel girls golf team.
