MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A special ceremony will be held in Hernando, Mississippi on Monday to announce major milestones in the broadband connectivity program.

Over a decade ago , the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors recognized a lack of access to reliable internet when more than 15,000 addresses were on the wrong side of the “digital divide”.

During a 2022 survey, the county found approximately 11,600 residents lacked access to high-speed internet.

By this fall, an over $19 million project should allow residents to have access to broadband service.

Part of the funding is coming from a $5.7 million grant from the broadband expansion and accessibility office of Mississippi and investments from AT&T, C Spire, and Uplink Internet.
