A North Carolina mother has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of her 9-month old daughter. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office recently announced the arrest of Megan Stack Sattizahn, 39, and shared disturbing details of the incident that unfolded in their recent press release.

Deputies were initially responding to a report of a suspicious person when they encountered Sattizahn near Section House Rd. in Hickory, N.C. The deputies noticed that she appeared “disoriented” and followed her to her residence on Tanglewood Dr. Upon questioning her near her home, Sattizahn interrupted the deputies and made a chilling statement: “Everyone come in, the baby is dead.” Confused and alarmed, the investigators asked for clarification, to which Sattizahn allegedly responded, “The baby looks dead.”

Officers entered the residence and were met with a devastating sight. They discovered the lifeless body of Samantha Sattizahn, the 9-month old daughter of Megan Stack Sattizahn. The affidavit of probable cause revealed that Sattizahn confessed to performing a “mercy killing” on her daughter, claiming that she did so because “God told her to.”

As horrible as that sounds, according to the affidavit, this was not the first time Sattizahn had allegedly attempted to harm baby Samantha. In December 2023, she reportedly tried to poison the infant by adding crushed up anti-psychotic prescription pills to her bottle.

Following the incident, Sattizahn was admitted to a hospital, and her first appearance in Catawba County District Court took place on Monday, July 22. As of now, she has not entered a plea to the charges.
