Newburgh teacher accused by district of having kids sit on his lap fired
Richard Desiderio was terminated by the school board last Thursday, according to a district document obtained by News 12, after a disciplinary hearing officer found that he ignored directives about the alleged behavior.

POUGHKEEPSIE – Clinton Elementary School hosted the first competition of a new program titled Read the World: “Motivational Reading Program,” which was launched on January 26, 2024. The event was attended by Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson, Pastor Michael A. Bell, Jr., Officer Kevin VanWanger and Officer Gary Beahan from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. Financial Development Center Manager Jannera Cruz from the Heritage Financial Credit Union was also present.
For new Newburgh school board, another chaotic meeting
NEWBURGH – Another smooth start followed by anger and acrimony visited Newburgh’s school board as three new members took their seats at Tuesday’s 6 p.m. meeting. Board clerk Matthew McCoy swore in incumbents Christine Bello and Philip Howard, and new members, Thomasina Bello and Mackenzie Bousche. The board elected Christine Bello as president and Victoria Bousche as vice president by votes of 5-3; Lotitia Politi did not attend. Victoria Bousche and Mackenzie Bousche are sisters; Thomasina Bello is the niece of Christine Bello.
