Missouri State Auditor begins audit in Leadwood
Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick announced that his office has begun an audit of the City of Leadwood in St. Francois County. The audit was requested by Mayor Robert Crump and the city’s Board of Aldermen and officially commenced with an entrance meeting with city officials on Thursday, July 11.
Valley Park Woman Drowns In Big River
A Valley Park woman drowned Sunday afternoon in St. Francois County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 40-year-old Melissa A. Hill of Valley Park, Mo., entered the water around 2:15 p.m. to help another individual in the water, upstream from St. Francois State Park on the Big River. Hill became unconscious and was found floating face down by bystanders, who recovered Hill and began life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.
Byrnes Mill annexes about .95-acre lot
The city of Byrnes Mill just got a little bigger. The Byrnes Mill Board of Alderpersons voted 4-0 June 26 to annex an approximately .95-acre vacant lot at 27 Walters Place into the city limits. Ward 1 Alderman Bob Prado and Ward 2 Alderwoman Cindy Davies were absent from the meeting.

Man charged with murdering girlfriend in Dutchtown
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A 40-year-old man is charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend on Friday in Dutchtown. St. Louis prosecutors have charged Derrick A. WASHINGTON − U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern recently named Brian Pearl, a native of Canton, Mo., as the agency’s deputy director. Pearl graduated from Canton R-V High School. He will serve in the agency’s second highest-ranking position as its chief operating officer. In addition to other responsibilities, Pearl will oversee GPO’s operations division, which includes plant operations, security and intelligent documents, official journals of government and customer services. These business units are responsible for GPO’s most important products including the U.S. passport, Congressional Record, Federal Register, White House print materials, secure federal credentials and other congressional and executive branch products and services.
