A 22-year-old hiker fell to her death last weekend while hiking in the Columbia River Gorge.

Around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, May 19, emergency responders arrived at the Horsetail Falls trailhead after reports a hiker had fallen from a cliff to the west. Elisha Angelic Macias, of Hillsboro, had been hiking near Oneonta Trail.

When Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived they found another hiker performing CPR. Cascade Locks Fire & EMS arrived and pronounced Macias dead at 4:35 p.m.

Macias was hiking with friends on the Oneonta Trail. At some point she separated herself from the group and went off trail. No one in the group saw her fall the estimated 50-60 feet.

Her body was recovered by Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and the Multnomah County Medical Examiner. Volunteers with Trauma Intervention Program Northwest provided resources and care for the others in her group.
