Iconic Fayetteville mural torn down, artist responds
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — An iconic Fayetteville mural, and the building that boasted it, have been torn down. On July 30, the "Love Unites Us" mural on Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard was torn down. The mural was first painted in 2020, after a vacant building on MLK was vandalized with a "white pride" message.

Texas couple sues City of Fayetteville over short-term rental rules
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A couple from Texas is suing the City of Fayetteville over its rules regarding short-term rentals. The complaint says that the Hauses bought a property in Fayetteville in 2023 to have a place to stay during their trips to visit their daughter, a student at the University of Arkansas who requires regular care due to health concerns.

Two months after tornadoes swept through Benton County, cities continue cleanup efforts
BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Benton County has picked up about 450,000 cubic yards of debris from county-maintained roads and streets outside of city limits. According to Melody Kwok with Benton County, their first pickup pass focused on tree stumps and vegetative debris, now they aim to finish the first phase by Aug. 18 before moving on to phase two.

Fayetteville fills 13 positions on city boards and committees
The Fayetteville City Council last month approved 13 appointments to eight of the city’s boards and committees. Most appointments are recommended by the council’s Nominating Committee, which includes one council member from each of the city’s four wards as chosen by the mayor each January. Some recommendations are made by the mayor or members of the boards.
Parks needs more to provide more
Parks Director Sam Dudley said at the July 23 meeting that signs are still being put up to mark trails, and refurbished metal benches had been installed in Basin Park. It was discussed whether to offer people an option to dedicate a bench for a fee that would pay to have a plaque attached to the bench.

CAPC works around financial speed bumps
The City Advertising and Promotion Commission had a great deal to tackle July 24 as they worked to establish normalcy following chaos of the past few months. Public comments had citizens requesting a complete audit of the last four years, a petition to disband the CAPC and redirect funds to infrastructure, a focus on building up Christmas, and funding the Parks & Recreation commission better.
School board sees initial designs for Fayetteville High School parking deck project
The Fayetteville School Board last week got a look at schematic designs for a new parking deck to be constructed at Fayetteville High School. Gail Shepherd and Esteban Ayala from Rogers-based architecture firm Hight Jackson Associates presented the initial designs for the project to the board on Thursday, July 25.
