HOBBS, New Mexico (KMID/KPEJ)- A Hobbs teen will not face any criminal charges in connection with an auto/pedestrian crash that left one person dead in May.

On May 12, officers responded to the intersection of Broadway and Turner after 43-year-old Leroy Gonzales was struck by a vehicle driven by a juvenile. Gonzales was found to be seriously injured and was taken to Covenant Health Hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators said Gonzales was standing in the roadway when he was struck by a maroon truck driven by a minor. Now, after weeks of witness interviews, surveillance footage review, the execution of search warrants, reviews of 911 calls, and several meetings with the District Attorney’s Office, investigators said the teen driver will not face criminal charges in connection with this crash.

Instead, the teen was issued traffic citations for careless driving and driving without a license.
