HOLLAND TWP . — A new development billed as an affordable, sustainable, Christian living community for individuals with disabilities and market-rate renters has taken another step forward in Holland Township.
Project representatives appeared before the Holland Township Planning Commission last week to request a Future Land Use Map Amendment that would allow the seven-acre piece of property just south of Ridge Point Church to be rezoned R2-A (Medium Density Residential).
Representatives said the initiative, organized by housing ministry Agora Flats, prioritizes community and inclusivity, with hopes to serve between 38 and 50 people in a two-story building.
“Ridge Point has generously provided the property ... a huge step forward in bringing our mission to fruition,” said Agora Flats Board President Stephanie Hoekstra in June. “It's an exciting step for us and an answer to many prayers.”
The development appeared before the commission in June, too, when representatives introduced the project .
“Last month, we (notified) all the neighboring municipalities and utilities that we intend to look at a potential change,” said Holland Township Community Development Director Corey Broersma. “Tonight, you are looking at that change and deciding whether or not you want to (recommend it to the board of trustees)."

Commissioners voted "yea." The amendment will now appear on the agenda for the Holland Township Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, July 18.
If the change is approved, there will be an opportunity for public comment, with a 42-day waiting period.
