Cherokee County Commissioners Approve Property Tax Increase
Cherokee County commissioners have voted to raise property taxes, although they approved a maintenance and operations millage rate lower than the one originally advertised. The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted July 16 to approve a maintenance and operations millage rate of 5.153 mills. The previous M&O millage rate was 4.954. Cherokee County commissioners are asking a developer who is looking to bring a 70-home active adult community to Holly Springs to reduce the density of the project. EC New Vision Georgia, LLC is applying to annex 23.12 acres on Arthur Drive, off Hickory Road, into Holly Springs. Ace Hardware Opens 5,000th US Store in Metro Atlanta
Roswell, Ga. — Hardware retail chain Ace Hardware has opened its 5,000th domestic store. Dubbed Fixit Ace Hardware, the store is located in Roswell, roughly 20 miles north of Atlanta. Additionally, the retailer opened its 100th new store of the year in Henderson, Nevada, last month. Ace, which operates more than 5,800 outposts globally, plans to open an additional 200 stores by the end of this year, which marks 100 years of business for the brand.
Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Donates 1,500 School Supplies to Students
Kennesaw Parks & Recreation donated over 1,500 pieces of school supplies at the Back 2 School Jam on July 13 to support local students preparing for the upcoming school year. The supplies included book bags, pencils, pens and glue sticks. Kennesaw Parks & Recreation provided school supplies for 300 families in the community. In addition to providing essential school supplies, the event offered various health screenings to local students such as general health, postural and vision screenings. Parents had the chance to connect with local organizations that offer support throughout the school year and access to a variety of vendors providing services at no charge. The Back 2 School Jam featured face painting, inflatables and jewelry making. It also presented an exclusive opportunity for early registration for the next season of Kennesaw Hoops Youth Basketball. Resident registration will open on Aug. 5 and non-resident registration will open on Aug. 12.

Marietta Woman Accused of Stealing from Home Depot
Elizabeth Annie Barbosa, 19, of Marietta, is accused of stealing $2,829 in cash from cash registers at the end of her shift as an employee of Home Depot on July 9 at 6:04 p.m. at the 449 Roberts Court location in Kennesaw, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department. Barbosa admitted to taking the cash over a two-week time period and there is video footage of the theft, according to the warrant. Barbosa is charged with theft by taking – greater than $1,500. She was arrested on July 9 at 6:33 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records. Barbosa was released on a $2,500 bond.
Marietta Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide
Daniel Hunt, 28, of Marietta, is accused of operating a maroon/brown 2019 Ram 1500 Classic in a reckless manner that caused a crash with the victim’s vehicle on June 20 at 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of Barrett Parkway and Village Greene in Marietta. Hunt is also accused of doing 68 mph in a 45 mph zone, which was too fast for the evening traffic and limited visibility caused by the curves in the road, according to an arrest warrant from the Marietta Police Department. ...
