A man has been sentenced to 143 years in prison after being found guilty of threatening a Burger King drive-thru employee with a firearm when the worker refused to accept drugs as payment. Later that same night, he also fired shots at other individuals in separate incidents.

Prosecutors revealed on Thursday that the drive-thru incident marked the start of a string of offenses committed by Eugene Robertson in Aurora, a suburb of Denver, on October 17, 2022. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries during these events. In April, a jury convicted Robertson of 17 charges, including eight counts of attempted murder. Many of the sentences were combined, resulting in the lengthy prison term. At 40 years old, Robertson faced a potential maximum sentence exceeding 400 years when he was sentenced on August 9.

“We consider this 143-year sentence justice for the multiple victims he put in fear that night. Jurors recognized the severity of the crimes this defendant committed. We believe the judge imposed an appropriate sentence,” Eric Ross, a representative for 18th Judicial District Attorney John Kellner, said in a statement on Friday.

Following the incident with the drive-thru worker, prosecutors reported that Robertson entered a nearby convenience store and aimed a gun at the clerk’s head. Upon noticing the surveillance cameras in the store, he fired at the screen before exiting. He then discharged his weapon toward two individuals in the parking lot, according to the office of District Attorney John Kellner.

The Sentinel Colorado in Aurora previously reported that a witness at the convenience store described Robertson as appearing “off” and noted that he was “talking about God” while carrying a purple-covered Bible.

Later that evening, a woman who knew Robertson called 911 to inform authorities that he had fired shots after she declined to open the door to her apartment, where she was with several others, according to prosecutors.

Law enforcement located Robertson at the woman’s apartment complex, where he was found hiding behind some bushes before being taken into custody, prosecutors stated.
