Cook County Donates Over 900 Clothing Items to Aid New Chicago Residents at New Life Center
In a move that speaks to the enduring spirit of community and resourcefulness in the face of closure, Cook County's Department of Facilities Management has made a significant contribution to the New Life Center. Almost 1,000 new articles of clothing, originally from the now-shuttered Oak Forest Campus Long-Term Care Facility, found a new purpose in supporting new arrivals through the "New Vecinos" team's efforts. This donation, detailed in a press release by Cook County, encompasses 866 pairs of shoes and 81 pairs of pants, set aside from the campus which is slated for partial demolition.

Over the past three years, the Village has been addressing challenges associated with the property value assessment practices of the Cook County Assessor’s Office. Stream Realty Partners has acquired a four-building industrial portfolio totaling 599,988 square feet of Class A industrial space in the Chicago metro area. The assets include Asbury Drive, a 157,500-square-foot building located at 850 Asbury Drive in Buffalo Grove in the Lake County submarket; Rockwell Logistics Center, a 174,262-square-foot building located at 2545 W. 24th Street in Chicago in the City South submarket; and Mokena Logistics I and II, 268,226 square feet across two buildings located at 8965 and 8905 W. 187th Street in Mokena in the Joliet submarket. The portfolio is fully leased to seven tenants.
US Invests $140 Million in Illinois Quantum Proving Ground.
The US Department of Defense is investing up to $140 million in a national proving ground for quantum technologies in Illinois, Governor JB Pritzker announced Tuesday. 28-year anniversary of Illinois’s biggest rainfall in recorded history
A swath of heavy rainfall occurred across portions of south central Wisconsin, northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana on July 17-18, 1996. The heaviest rainfall was observed near Aurora, Illinois, with a maximum point rainfall of 16.94 inches in a 24-hour period. The 24-hour rainfall measured near Aurora remains the statewide record (as of 2022). An observation of 10.99 inches of rainfall was recorded on the far west side of Chicago which remains the highest storm total observed in Chicago (as of 2022). These extreme rainfall totals led to widespread, significant flooding in the western suburbs of Chicago and areas just to the west. Flooding was observed on the Fox River, DuPage River, Des Plaines River, and tributaries including Blackberry Creek, Sawmill Creek, and Lemont Run. Many river crest records remain to this day (as of 2022). Damage estimates were on the order of $600-700 million ($1.1 to $1.3 billion in 2022 dollars). FEMA estimated that more than 35,000 residences were flooded.
