Don’t Fall Victim to the Latest USPS Text Scam Circulating Illinois
We should all know better by now, but I nearly fell victim to a new package delivery text scam the other day, and I don't want the same thing to happen to you. Here's one thing I can guarantee about me; if you call or text me from a number I don't recognize, I will not answer or respond...ever. My notorious call screening usually saves me from phone scammers, BUT, when I have been waiting for over two weeks for Japanese Beetle traps I desperately need to arrive, receiving a text about a delivery issue almost had me falling hook, line, and sinker into the scammer's trap.

South Shore Arts has some competition for its Downtown Hammond space. For about 25 years, the organization has hosted classes, exhibits and other events at a former NIPSCO substation on Fayette Street, known as Substation No. 9. But NIPSCO recently transferred ownership of the building to the Hammond Redevelopment Commission, which had to give other potential tenants a chance to lease it.

Contractor in 30th Street Station restoration project charged in bribery scheme
An executive for a company involved in the restoration of 30th Street Station was charged Wednesday in an alleged bribery scheme tied to the project. Lee Maniatis, chief operating officer of MARK 1 Restoration in Dolton, Illinois, allegedly offered trips, an $11,000 watch, a $2,000 steakhouse meal and a dog to Amtrak official Ajith Bhaskaran, who was overseeing the project. In exchange, prosectutors allege Bhaskaran approved inflated invoices submitted by Maniatis and others, over-billing Amtrak throughout the project.
