HONOLULU (KHON2) — A cutoff low is developing from storms east of the state. This low is expected to move northeast of the islands on Friday and then track west or north of the area over the weekend. This low will likely enhance trade wind showers, particularly on Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Isolated thunderstorms may develop over the Big Island slopes on Friday and Saturday afternoons. The path and proximity of the low to the islands will determine the likelihood of these storms. If the low tracks closer to the Big Island on Friday and Saturday, low could trigger isolated storms on the Big Island slopes. After a weekend of reduced trade winds due to the passing low, it will exit northwest of the state by Monday, ending the enhanced shower or isolated storm threat. High pressure will reestablish itself north-northwest of the state early next week, bringing back the typical summertime trade wind weather pattern as we enter the first full week of July.

Small Craft Advisory until 6 PM HST Thursday for Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, Big Island Leeward Waters, Big Island Southeast Waters.
