    HPD: Body found after car fire extinguished

    HONOLULU (KHON2) — According to the Honolulu Police Department, around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, officers discovered a body in a vehicle that was on fire.

    The incident happened on Malaai Street and Lawehana Road.

    HPD said they were responding to a vehicle fire call when they found the body after the Honolulu Fire Department extinguishing the flames.

    HFD and the ATF were all on scene investigating.

    The incident is being investigated as an unattended death, and police have not said if the body is male or female.

    At this time, HPD said it appears that the vehicle was a lunch wagon that was parked along the side of the road.

    No further details are available at this time.

    Police said an autopsy is scheduled for later today.
