City of Kinston hosting ribbon cutting for social district today
KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina city will be joining a long list of other cities in our state, with the addition of a social district. This morning at 11 a.m., the City of Kinston will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the downtown Kinston Social District.
Downtown Kinston Revitalization to Host Fourth of July Celebration
A Fourth of July event will be held on Thursday, July 4, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Pearson Park. “Downtown Kinston Revitalization, the City of Kinston and the Kinston Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Department are thrilled to host the annual July 4th Independence Day celebration in downtown Kinston's Pearson Park,” said DKR Executive Director Leon Steele. “The festivities kick off at 3:30 with Flimsy. Vendors will be selling hot dogs, ice cream, funnel cakes, snow cones and tacos.”

Troubled Kinston charter school officially closed
KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - One of the state’s oldest charter schools is now closed. The charter for Children’s Village Academy in Kinston officially ran out on Sunday. The state decided not to renew the troubled charter school in a vote last month. The school had come under scrutiny for allegations concerning the school’s operations.
