Millbrook 11U All-Stars win World Series
The Firehawks brought home some hardware. The Millbrook Firehawks, an 11U All-Star baseball team, traveled down to Baton Rouge and claimed the USSSA 11U All-Star World Series last weekend. The team, which consists of CJ Jackson, Jason Thomas, Justice Gadaingan, Karson Wilson, Shawn Compton, Christian Lewis, Chase Deaton, Carter Taylor, Cam Smith, Caden Southerland and Brantley Jackson, went 6-1 in the tournament and outscored opponents 57-21.
AHSAA moves basketball regional back to ASU while keeping one at Garrett
Alabama High School Athletic Association officials announced on Friday they would be placing a basketball regional back at Alabama State’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The regionals that had been previously held at the Acadome from 2007-2020 that later moved to Birmingham’s Bill Harris Arena will be returning to Montgomery, along with the regional that has been held at Garrett Coliseum the past six years.

AHSAA All-Star Sports Week | North All-Stars Claim Thrilling 3-2 Victory in Volleyball Showdown
MONTGOMERY, AL – In an electrifying display of talent, the North All-Stars edged out the South with a hard-fought 3-2 victory in the AHSAA Volleyball All-Star match held Thursday at the Cramton Bowl MultiPlex. The nail-biting sets concluded with scores of 23-25, 26-24, 23-25, and 15-9, marking an impressive win for the North, which now leads the series 16-10. This match capped off the exciting 2024 All-Star Sports Week, a tradition that began with the inaugural all-star match introduced by the AHSAA in 1997.
Kahle Homers, Shuckers Fall in Series Finale to Biscuits
BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers (44-44, 14-7) broke up a no-hit bid in the eighth with Nick Kahle’s first home run of the year, but four runs over the first six innings from the Montgomery Biscuits (49-41, 9-12) led the way in a 4-1 Shuckers’ loss at Keesler Federal Park on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Shuckers won the series two games to one and maintain a two-game lead in first place in the South Division in the second half.

Biloxi sets single-game franchise record, Brown Jr. sets career-high with seven RBI. BILOXI, MS – In a record-setting night, the Biloxi Shuckers (44-43, 14-6) set the single-game franchise record for runs in a game and Eric Brown Jr. set a new career-high with seven RBI in a 19-1 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (48-41, 8-12) at Keesler Federal Park on Saturday night. Brown Jr.’s seven RBI night was the third-most in a single game in franchise history and he set a career-high with two home runs. The game also saw the Shuckers score nine runs on seven hits in the second inning, with both marks tied for the fourth-most in a single-inning in franchise history.

Stanhope Elmore High School senior punter Colby Beyer recently won a punt competition during a summer camp at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The competition featured more than 40 punters from around the country. After winning the competition, Beyer’s father, an alumnus from Florida State, tracked down Seminole’s Head Coach Mike Norvell, for a picture with the younger Beyer.
State athletic leader Dr. Kennith Blankenship of Montgomery dies at 88
The AHSAA has announced the death of Dr. Kennith Blankenship of Montgomery at the age of 88. Blankenship died after an extended illness on Sunday, July 21. “Our hearts are heavy,” said retiring AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs. “Dr. Blankenship and his wife Betty Joy have been important members of the AHSAA family. His leadership in so many different areas has made a world of difference to our student-athletes for many years. Our prayers and love go out to his family – and especially his wife Betty Joy.”
