HOPEWELL — The woman who jumped into the Appomattox River last week to avoid arrest was found alive and well — and arrested — Tuesday afternoon.

Cassie Renee Boss, 37, of Hopewell was picked up shortly after noon following a brief on-foot pursuit in the 300 block of Woodbine Street, police Lt. Jacquita Allen said. Boss had been sought since reportedly jumping into the river early July 16 at the Hopewell City Marina.

Officers responding to a report of suspicious activity at the marina approached Boss after discovering she was wanted on numerous charges in surrounding jurisdictions. The Virginia State Police and water-rescue crews from Chesterfield County were called in to assist with the search that ultimately turned up empty.

It was not immediately clear how long Boss was in the water or where she came ashore.

Boss has been charged with the following: Felony Distribution of Scheduled I/II, Misdemeanor False Identification to Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor Obstruction of Justice, Misdemeanor Capias for Failure to Appear, and a Felony Capias for Failure to Appear. Allen said all those charges are from the outstanding warrants.

Boss is being held at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County without bond.
