Driver’s licensing office has moved to a temporary location in Hopkinsville

Damages caused by a storm with heavy rain on June 3 forced state officials to temporarily move the Hopkinsville Driver Licensing Regional Office out of the old First City Bank building at 901-A S. Main St., the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Monday.

While repairs are made, the licensing office will operate from a temporary location. Anyone using the office must first make an appointment online.

A press release about the move withholds the address of the temporary office and states that the location will be provided once a customer makes an appointment.

However, two outdoor signs at the Forbes Place building, 1002 S. Virginia St., indicated that the licensing office is located on that building’s fourth floor.

A spokesman for the transportation cabinet told Hoptown Chronicle the address is not provided in the press release because officials don’t believe there is enough space in the temporary location to accommodate walk-in customers.

Hours of operation for customers who make an appointment are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office phone number is 270-962-4068. Customers are encouraged to park on the second level of the garage at the back of Forbes Place.

Additional information about renewing a driver’s license or a state identification card — by mail, in person or online — is avaiable at the cabinet’s website.

According to the press release, the Hopkinsville office will be open for walk-in business only one day this month — from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet opened the Hopkinsville regional office on South Main Street in early 2022 as part of a major overhaul of the state’s licensing system. Regional offices replaced offices that previously were in every county and were run by the local circuit court clerks.
