Houma filmmaker to host auditions for bullying film. Here’s how your kids can try out

A Houma videographer is holding tryouts for children to be in a 40-minute film about bullying.

Jalisa Mulligan, owner of JayP Films, is holding auditions Aug. 15-17 for children and teens between the ages of 8 and 20. The film will be about children in school facing bullying and how they deal with it.

Mulligan has openings for six main roles and numerous extras. She also can take on five more to help with filming. No prior acting or filming experience is required, she said, only a desire to learn the craft.

“It’s something for the kids to do, it’s like I am just trying to turn kids into actors,” she said. “I’m just trying to give kids something to do besides just playing sports, because not all kids play sports.”

Filming is currently set for the second week of September, and Mulligan said she is reaching out to local schools to find a location to film at. Mulligan is a videographer who, through her nonprofit JayP Films , teaches children acting, and how to shoot, animate , and edit videos to share her passion of filmmaking.

“They got some kids that’s into theater, that’s into poetry, that’s into computer things,” she said. “And I’m just trying to give them some inspiration that they can really be anything.”
