The Houston Texans are set to head to training camp in the next few days. On July 17, rookies and quarterbacks are due to report to camp, which this year, much like just about every year, will be held right next to NRG Stadium at the practice facility. The Texans have already announced some key dates for camp , including dates that fans are allowed to watch, as well as other dates.

But now, it's time for the players to get ready. Because from here on out, the 2024 season has started. This is the real start of the season because, after training camp, the team goes right into the season. During training camp, the team plays preseason games. The Texans start earlier than everyone else with the Hall of Fame game in preseason Week 0, as we call it.

As we get ready for all of the content, and the overload of information we are about to receive with camp, it's time to check some boxes off of the to-do list for the Texans. First, we need to look at what position battles will be the biggest and most focused on during camp. The Texans have more than a few going on, but there are three that are the most important.

Texans' three biggest position battles during training camp

    CB2

This one is maybe the most obvious. Derek Stingley, one of the best cornerbacks in the league, is the obvious No. 1 CB on the team. He is the guy that, if DeMeco Ryans needs a star receiver on the other team to be shadowed all game, it's Stingley. But, just like the Texans have three amazing wide receivers, other teams will have more than one great weapon, too.

So, the CB2 position needs to be filled by someone who is willing to take that on. The Texans brought in C.J. Henderson , and Jeff Okudah in free agency - two former top 10 picks. They also drafted Kamari Lassiter from Georgia, who is long and physical. So, it will be interesting to watch during training camp how that battle shapes up. Either way, the cornerback room should be much better this year than last year.

The left guard position is a little tricky. You have a guy in Kenyon Green, who was a very high pick by the Texans but has dealt with injuries and really just hasn't been that good. He is entering a contract year and is expected to be a guy that competes for the starting position. But, he will have competition.

The Texans Kendrick Green, whom the Texans acquired last year from the Pittsburgh Steelers, is currently the backup right guard behind Shaq Mason. Kendrick Green could also battle for that starting left guard spot. And then, last but not least, I think LaDarius Henderson, a rookie taken late in the 2024 NFL Draft, could surprise some people.

    WR

We know who the top three wide receivers will be for the Texans in 2024. Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell will surely hold those positions down. But, a wide receiver corps is more than just three guys. It's the depth, too. The Texans have the depth, but who fills in after those three is the big question.

We have seen offseason clips of John Metchie getting his explosiveness back . And of course, the Texans brought back Noah Brown as well. Or, do they go the route of an undrafted free agent who surprises everyone in camp? Because, well, that has happened before. Obviously, he wasn't a wide receiver, but we all remember Arian Foster, one of the best Texans running backs ever, and he was undrafted.

There are so many storylines to follow, and it's going to be hard to keep up. But training camp is here, which means the 2024 season is finally here.
