HOWELL (WWJ) Howell Police are investigating a fatal shooting at a local business. Multiple sources, including FOX 2 and WDIV , are reporting it was inside a tattoo shop.

In a release to the media, Howell Police said officers were called to the business for a “threats complaint.” When they arrived, they found the man dead from a gunshot wound on Friday (6/28) around 5:30 p.m. on Grand River near Michigan Avenue. While there is a tattoo shop at the intersection, police did not name the business.

Officers "immediately" detained one suspect, Howell Police said.

Police “secured the scene” and it remained active for “several hours.”

“We want to emphasize this that there is currently no threat to the public,” Howell Police said in the release. “This incident did not occur near the Balloonfest and is no way connected to the event.”

They described the incident as “isolated”, adding that everyone involved is cooperating with the investigation.

Howell Police ask that everyone avoid the crime scene.

The victim was identified in the press release only as a “white male.” His name and age have not been released.

No further details, including the circumstances or the motive, were released about the shooting.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Green Oak Township Police, Hamburg Township Public Safety and Howell Area Fire are assisting in the investigation. Howell Police said they will update the public as more information becomes available.
