HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Work on a sanitary sewer improvement project is currently underway in Hubbard. It’s a project that includes more than just a line replacement but also upgrades to backup power sources should the electricity go out.

Despite the rain, construction crews were hard at work on Hall Avenue in front of Hubbard schools on Wednesday.

“This collection of homes over here has dealt with sanitary backup and possible issues for many years that we have tried to make improvements,” Mayor Ben Kyle said.

The project involves replacing the sewer line between Scott and Clingan streets.

“Now that this line is going to be completely replaced, they shouldn’t have any issues moving into the future and it helps protect the school,” Kyle said.

The project also includes backup power upgrades, such as new generators, at lift stations and electronic enhancements at the wastewater treatment plant.

The total cost is a little more than a half million dollars, $325,000 of which is being covered by state grants.

Kyle calls it a great win for the city.

“This was a project that was started back in ’21 with the state releasing some money for the communities for water and sanitary projects, and so we were able to jump on a project that we thought was very valuable to our community,” he said.

Kyle says it could take up to a year-and-a-half to complete the project because of current wait times on new generators.

The construction portion along Hall Avenue is expected to wrap up in a few weeks, prior to the start of school.
