Police in Huntersville said they have a person of interest in custody after a shooting Thursday afternoon at the McDonald’s on Cane Creek Drive.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew to the scene at about 3:15 p.m. where police tape roped off much of the parking lot of the fast food restaurant. Officers were canvassing the area.

A male was treated for life-threatening injuries and taken to Atrium Health CMC, MEDIC said.

Officers are not looking for any suspects and there is no longer a danger.

The person of interest hasn’t been identified yet, but family members say he was driving for Uber Eats and had to pick up an order at McDonald’s when there was some sort of confrontation at his van. Family members said the accused gunman was protecting himself.

Employees in the restaurant told Channel 9 that the man who was shot had been assaulting people in their parking lot and at other stores in the area.

Huntersville police said its investigators are still hard at work on this case, but they didn’t confirm the details shared by the family members and McDonald’s employees.

No additional details have been made available.
