A stabbing attack in Huntington Beach left two people dead, and three other people injured, and a man was in custody Friday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

KNX News' Jon Baird spoke to a local who says his friends were the victims in this attack:

The attack was reported about 11:15 p.m. Thursday near 16th Street and Pecan Avenue, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department. The location is a neighborhood of multi-family buildings, according to Google.

Logan Kelley, 26, of Huntington Beach, was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, Jennifer Carey of the city of Huntington Beach told City News Service on Friday. Bail information was not immediately available.

The names of the people who died were not immediately available. All five victims were adults, Carey said. Other details were not being released by authorities, and the investigation was continuing, Carey said.

"Upon arrival, officers located several victims with significant injuries," police earlier posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"As a result of this incident, unfortunately 2 individuals succumbed to their injuries. An additional 3 individuals were transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. We have 1 person in custody. The investigation is still ongoing and more information will be provided as we are able to," police said.

Authorities told Fox11 that the victims had been stabbed. It was unclear what prompted the assaults.

"HBPD has no reason to believe there is any further public safety threat related to this incident," police said. "The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no additional details will be released at this time."
