HURRICANE, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A 56-year-old hiker died while hiking on a southern Utah trail near the Quail Creek State Park on Sunday, July 21, according to the Hurricane City Police Department.

The woman, who has not been identified, was reportedly in distress due to not having enough water while hiking the trail. Hurricane City Police reported the temperature at the time was 106 degrees.

Responding officers found the woman unresponsive on the trail near Quail Creek State Park. Despite life-saving measures, the woman died on the scene.

This grass can go weeks without water — and Utah just approved it

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family,” the Hurricane City Police Department said in a statement.

The woman’s death is the latest heat-related death in Utah amid blistering temperatures that gripped the state.

Earlier this month, a 52-year-old father and his 23-year-old daughter from Wisconsin were found dead in Canyonlands National Park. The two reportedly got lost and ran out of water in temperatures above 100 degrees.

The National Park Service urged visitors to carry and drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity during the midday heat, especially when temperatures are expected to remain so high.
