TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Construction of a sprawling, $10 million park near the Cherokee Nation’s tribal headquarters in Tahlequah kicked off June 21. Named after the late principal chief, Wilma P. Mankiller Capitol Park – when completed in fall 2025 – will feature a community building, dog park, heirloom garden, amphitheater, stickball field, playground, walking trails, food truck area, water feature, a memorial statue to honor Mankiller herself, and more, all on 15 acres.

The mother of a Denver homeless man told the City Council Monday that city-sponsored services have failed her son. Barbara Hallick Yeomans made her remarks during public comment period of the City Council meeting. She said her son grapples with substance abuse and mental illness and repeatedly has been harassed by police. She said her son also suffered verbal abuse by a guard in the Denver County Jail. Health officials have suspended the license of Pierce County massage therapist Lukela Los Banos, the Washington Department of Health reported on Thursday. Los Banos allegedly placed suction cups on the back of a patient's legs on Sep. 23, 2023, and left the cups on their skin for around 40 minutes, the DOH reports. He allegedly tightened the cups three times, injuring the patient’s skin, according to the department.
