    STATE SOFTBALL: Eagle tops Capital after wild sixth inning

    In a sixth inning that saw a combined 18 runs, it was the Eagle softball team that took the advantage, scoring 11 of those runs to force a 23-13 mercy rule win over Capital in the first round of the 5A State Tournament. Hayleigh Oliver had an RBI single with two outs in the sixth to end the game

    Eagle (16-9) led 12-6 entering the sixth inning, but Capital (18-10) scored seven runs to take the lead. All seven runs came with two outs, with Tyra Price getting things going with a grand slam. Keyten Erickson reached base on an error later in the inning, scoring a run and Kharson Castell scored two more runs on a single, giving Capital a 13-12 lead.

    That didn’t last long as Sydney Manzer had a bases-loaded single with no outs for the Mustangs, scoring two runs and two batters later, Oliver had her first of her two hits in the inning, a grand slam. Oliver finished the game with four hits and seven RBIs.

    Eagle, which had 21 hits in the game, will face Borah at 12:15 p.m. MST on Friday at Post Falls High, while Capital will face Thunder Ridge at 10 a.m. in an elimination game

    TIMBERLINE 11, ROCKY MOUNTAIN 2

    Mallorie Casch’s three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning capped an eight-run frame for Timberline, as the Wolves turned a 2-2 tie into a 10-2 lead they never surrendered.

    Bre Degen had a two-run single for Timberline (18-9) in the innings, while Grace Catt, Ella Driever and Glori Belle Sackett each brought in a run.

    Delaney Wright pitched all seven innings for Timberline, finishing with six strikeouts. Rocky Mountain will face Coeur d’Alene at 12:15 p.m. Friday.

    Savannah Henzler and Aubrey Sorensen both had first-inning RBIs for Rocky Mountain (15-13), which will face Owyhee at 10 a.m. at Post Falls in an elimination game.

    BORAH 5, THUNDER RIDGE 1

    Megan Meracle struck allowed just two hits while striking out 17 batters, helping Borah overcome a 17-strikeout performance by Thunder Ridge’s Kaliann Scoresby.

    Halle Fitzer had a solo home run in the seventh inning for Borah (15-9), while Olyvia Chalifoux had a two-run double in the fourth.

    COUER D’ALENE 10, OWYHEE 7: The defending state champions were forced into the elimination bracket in the first game.

    Rylie Haith and Samantha Hatzenbeller both had two RBIs for the Storm (20-3).

    4A STATE TOURNAMENT

    BISHOP KELLY 5, MOSCOW 4: Lauren Fettic’s two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning capped a Bishop Kelly comeback as the Knights won in the first round of the 4A State Tournament.

    Bishop Kelly (21-3) fell behind 4-0 in the second inning, but fought its way back into the game with Fettic getting things going in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run and Jaidyn Baerlocher adding an RBI double later in the inning.

    Ava Armuth led off the sixth inning with a triple, then scored when Olivia Watt reached base on an error. That brought up Fettic, who hit her second home run of the game.

    The Knights will face Twin Falls at 12:15 p.m. Friday at Coeur d’Alene High.

    HILLCREST 7, SKYVIEW 6: Skyview took a 6-4 lead on a two-run single by Grace Chambers in the top of the sixth inning, but Hillcrest scored three runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake the lead and beat the Hawks.

    Skyview (16-13) faces Wood River in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Friday at Lake City High.

    3A STATE TOURAMENT

    HOMEDALE 15, TETON 4, 5 INNINGS: Olivia Asumendi was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, as Homedale was able to win via mercy rule at the 3A State Tournament.

    The Trojans (17-5) will face Gooding at 12:15 p.m. Friday in Moscow.

    Isana Larzeier, Zayne Hall, Lilly Trescot and Arlett Quezada each drove in two runs, while Dani Sitts drove in 11 runs in seven innings in the circle.

    MARSH VALLEY 10, PARMA 8: Parma fell behind 9-0 early, but tried to rally back, but the comeback fell short.

    Maya Jensen and Wesli Crockett had two hits for the Panthers (18-7), who face Timberlake at 10 a.m. in an elimination game.

    GOODING 9, WEISER 5: Aryssa Aburto had a three-run home run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4, but Gooding responded with a solo home run to lead off the bottom half of the frame and scored three more runs on a single.

    The Wolverines (14-9) will face Teton in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Friday.

    2A STATE TOURNAMENT

    COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 9, GRANGEVILLE 1: Karlie Barnum struck out 11, pitching five no-hit innings as Cole Valley Christian rolled into next round of the 2A State Tournament in Orofino.

    The Chargers (21-5-1) will face Orofino at 12:15 p.m. on Friday.

    Lauren Colson, who allowed one hit in two innings pitched for Cole Valley and Abbie English both had two RBIs in the win.

    DECLO 14, NEW PLYMOUTH 3, 5 INNINGS: Abi Robinson had a first-inning RBI single for New Plymouth and led off the fourth inning with a solo home run, but besides an RBI double by Bella Barbee that was the extent of the Pilgrims’ offense as Declo took a five-inning win.

    New Plymouth (12-14) will face Salmon at 10 a.m. Friday in an elimination game.
