Police investigating after dead body found west of Pocatello in Power County

Local police are investigating after a dead body was found west of the Trail Creek area in eastern Power County on Sunday evening.

Pocatello police and Power County sheriff’s deputies located the body around 6:50 p.m. while investigating the disappearance of a local man who was reported missing earlier this month, authorities said.

Police said they received a tip on Saturday that the vehicle belonging to the missing man was observed west of Pocatello in Power County. After responding to the area, police and deputies located the body on Sunday evening a short distance from where the vehicle was found, authorities said.

Police said they are unable to release any information about the dead body, including age, gender and cause of death, until an autopsy is completed later this week at the Ada County Coroner’s Office in Boise.

Police also are not commenting on whether the dead body that was discovered is the missing man.

Police said the incident remains under investigation but there is no threat to the public.

The Power County Search and Rescue team was also assisted during this incident.

This is the second dead body that was discovered this month in the Pocatello area.

On July 13 a dead body was found in the Portneuf River near North Main Street in Pocatello.

Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased in that case, which remains under investigation.

Police said there is no connection between the two dead body incidents.
