Commanders Sign Player Six Years After Last NFL Game

The Washington Commanders signed wide receiver Martavis Bryant on Tuesday (August 12), six year after his last NFL game, ESPN 's Adam Schefter reported.

Bryant, 32, was suspended indefinitely for drug use in 2018 and reinstated in November 2023. The former Clemson standout last appeared in a game for the then-Oakland Raiders against the Los Angeles Chargers on November 11, 2018.

Bryant, who is listed at 6-foot-4, addressing the Commanders' need for a taller wide receiver as every other player currently listed on the depth chart is 6-foot-2 or shorter. Head coach Dan Quinn , who was hired by Washington after spending the past three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, was with Bryant last season when the veteran was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad.

"He's in really good shape and he's really hungry to prove it," Quinn said via ESPN . "He's been ready for a while, so it's good to have him here."

Bryant was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 118 overall in the fourth-round of the 2014 NFL Draft and recorded 126 receptions for 1,917 yards and 17 touchdowns during his first three seasons. The 32-year-old had stints with several non-NFL teams prior to being reinstated in 2023 and signing to the Cowboys' practice squad last November before being released in January.
