One of two suspects who was accused of murdering Lionel "Chinx" Pickens has been sentenced to over two decades in prison.

Quincy Homere appeared at a courtroom in Queens, N.Y. on Monday, August 12, to learn his fate. According to Billboard , Homere was sentenced to serve 23 years behind bars. After the ruling was handed down, Homere addressed the court and Pickens' family.

“I’d like to express my condolences to the family and anyone else that was affected with what happened here,” he said in a statement to the court. “I don’t believe there’s words that can express the way I feel about what transpired here.”

“I was told I had two minutes to say goodbye, holding his mother’s hand, watching his lifeless body praying and crying for him to wake up,” Chinx's widow Janelli Caceres told the court. “A mother has to bury her son. At the age of 28 I had became a widow. My children, who were 15, 11 and 4, are now without a dad.”

The sentencing hearing happened almost a month after Homere pled guilty to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter. Homere and his accomplice Jamar Hill were accused of killing Chinx and wounding his friend Antar Alziadi during a shooting on the night of May 17, 2015. Prosecutors say the duo "hunted down Chinx" over an argument over a phone during their time on Riker's Island. Two years later, they were both arrested while they were in jail for respective, unrelated cases. Homere and Hill were charged with second-degree murder and other felony offenses.

Homere struck a plea deal with the prosecution, however, Hill's case is still pending. Hill is currently in prison for a separate charge. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz hopes the judge's decision will help alleviate the family's pain.

“Quincy Homere was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for killing Lionel Pickens Jr., a successful rapper, husband and father who was mercilessly gunned down in 2015," Katz said in a statement. "Homere fired numerous rounds into Pickens’ car while he was stopped at a red light in Briarwood and then fled, leaving the young man for dead. Nothing can undo what happened, but I hope today’s sentence brings some solace to Pickens’ loved ones as they continue to grieve.”
