Man Sentenced To Life For Killing Over Dog Poop Screams At Victim's Widow

A convicted killer lashed out at his victim's widow in court during his sentencing hearing. Lissette Rey , whose husband Jose Rey was fatally shot by Omar Rodriguez , was speaking to the court when Rodriguez screamed at her.

"The coward was your husband," Rodriguez yelled. "That's why I killed him! … He cried like a baby."

Rodriguez was removed from the courtroom by several police officers.

Rodriguez was convicted of fatally shooting Jose Rey in 2015 over a dispute about dog poop. Rey was walking his dog, which was about to poop on the lawn of Rodriguez's son. The two men got into an argument, which ended when Rodriguez fatally shot Rey.

Rodriguez claimed he was acting in self-defense under Florida's Stand Your Ground Law, but a jury rejected his claims, convicting him of second-degree murder. He was also convicted of aggravated assault for threatening Rey's wife.

After the hearing, in which Rodriguez was sentenced to life in prison, Lissette Rey told WTVJ that she didn't hear what he said .

"I wish though the death sentence would have been on the table, but at the end of the day, Mr. Rodriguez will continue to see his family, they will be able to see him, I'll never get to see my husband again," she said. "I wasn't listening to exactly to what he was saying, I was tuning him out, I was just reading my thoughts. His words are irrelevant. He is irrelevant In my life right now. He's pond scum."
