Conditions inside the Lackey High School swim pool on Saturday morning only provided a mild relief to those outdoors as visiting Greenbelt Municipal edged host Indian Head 292-286 in a Prince-Mont Swim League Division C meet.

Indian Head (2-2) swimmers combined to post 23 victories on Saturday morning, including a three of the five relays, but Greenbelt Municipal prevailed narrowly thanks to three more wins and depth points in other events. Cumulative finals points aside, however, Indian Head coach Meladeh Toney was pleased with the efforts of her swimmers on Saturday morning.

"We were probably missing 30 kids today, but we had a lot of kids drop time and compete in events that they normally would not have tried," said Toney, who is also heading into her sixth season as the head swim coach at North Point High School. "We knew it was going to be very close and we had a lot of kids drop time and really step up for us this morning. We were just hoping for a little better outcome."

    Indian Head's Edison Wright took the 9-10 boys' 25-meter butterfly (16.46), 50 freestyle (30.65), and 25 breaststroke (20.53). Taylor Sellers won the 9-10 girls' 25 fly (19.50) and 25 breast (22.44) Ezra Rodriguez captured the 11-12 boys' 50 fly (34.94), 50 breast (36.65) and 50 backstroke (37.99). Naomi Dugan took the 15-18 girls' 50 fly (29.49), 100 free (56.88) and 50 breast (34.02), Dakotah Boykin captured the 11-12 boys' 50 free (27.47) and 100 IM (1:10.58) Jackson Walter won the 13-14 boys' 50 free (27.37), 50 back (31.06) and 100 IM (1:10.15).

Indian Head swimmers Billy McConnell, Alex Nguyen, Jonathan Haralson and Juan Brown opened the meet by taking the 15-18 boys' 200 medley relay (1:59.46) and later Austin Vortia, Paris Blake, Liberty Bradley and Sebastian Webb combined to take the mixed 8-under 100 free relay (1:54.83) then Edison Wright, Boykin, Walter and Mason Wright combined to prevail easily in the 9-18 boys' 200 free relay (1:52.96).

Indian Head swimmer Carolina Walter, a rising senior at Lackey, mirrored Toney's contention that her team had performed well in defeat. Walter now has her sights set on attaining her goals at the remaining Prince-Mont meets then again during the winter in her final season with the Chargers.

"I was really hoping to drop time in my events today," said Walter, who finished second in the girls' 15-18 100 IM on Saturday. "We wanted to win that last relay and hopefully pull out the win for the team. It was really close. I'm looking forward to the Divisionals and then maybe going to All-Stars and then focusing on the 200 IM for the high school meets."

In other Prince-Mont meets involving Charles County teams on Saturday, Hawthorne (4-0) remained perfect by downing MVP 301-291 in a Division A meet, Smallwood Village topped Greenview 330-205 in a Division C meet, Westlake Village edged Russett 295-275.

All five local teams will compete in their final respective Prince-Mont league dual meet on Saturday then all of them will head to Smallwood Village on Sunday for the annual Charles County Swim Championships. Smallwood will also host the Division C Swim Championships one week later.
