Caitlin Clark Delivers Response to Criticism From Indiana Fever Coach

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark continues to make history in her rookie season. Recently becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to tally 300 points, 100 assists, and 100 rebounds, Clark reached this milestone in three fewer games than anyone else in league history.

While a record like this highlights Clark's all-around game, Fever head coach Christie Sides believes her star rookie could stand to be more aggressive. Speaking with reporters after Indiana's 89-77 loss to the Seattle Storm, Sides said Clark needs to be taking at least 15 shots per game.

Currently averaging 12.2 field goal attempts per game, Clark has only reached 15 field goal attempts six times in her 19 games this season. With the majority of these attempts coming from three (8.0 3PA/G), Clark could increase her total number of shots by taking more floaters and midrange jumpers.

When asked about Sides' comments prior to Sunday's game against the Phoenix Mercury, Clark said, "As long as we move the ball and get the best shot for the team that's good with me. I think at times I can be a little more aggressive and maybe not over pass as much, but at the same time I feel like we're getting good shots."

Clark finished her answer by directly addressing Sides' comments, adding, "I want to set my teammates up for success. I love passing the ball. Throwing a great pass is almost more exhilarating than making a great shot. For me, I don't feel like I need an X number of shots. I know Christie knows that too, I just think she wants me to be a little more aggressive, and I certainly can do that too. "

Always professional with the media, Clark pushed back against the idea that she needs a certain number of shots per game, but understands where her coach is coming from with those comments.
