Indiana foster mother accused of killing boy after laying on top of him

A foster mother in Indiana has been accused of killing a ten-year-old boy by lying on top of him . Jennifer Lee Wilson was arrested on July 13 in connection to the death of Dakota Levi Stevens.

The 48-year-old was arrested following the issuing of a warrant on a charge of reckless homicide . A license plate camera detected her vehicle, leading to police finding her and arresting her.

The warrant for her arrest was issued two months after the young boy's death . The boy died following a medical emergency on April 25.

Officers responded to a home in Liberty Township, Indiana, and brought the boy to hospital. He was then pronounced dead.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the Department of Child Services placed Levi with Wilson about a month before he died. Wilson was arrested in Michigan, just north of the Indiana border.

She told police that Dakota ran away earlier that day and that she found him in a neighbor's house and brought him back home. she revealed that the boy had thrown himself on the floor and she was lying on top of him to keep him under control while she contacted his caseworker.

She told police that she thought he was faking but when she rolled him over, his eyelids were pale. She said she was on top of him for about five minutes.

In court documents cited by NBC5, authorities allege: "Wilson stated that when she attempted to stop him from leaving, she does not know if she tackled Dakota or they fell to the ground, however, her intention was to hold him."

Wilson then began administering CPR and called 911. According to reports, an autopsy states that the boy died of mechanical asphyxia.

Dakota weighed 91 pounds while Wilson weighed 340 pounds. Other foster children have since been removed from Wilson's home.
