Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark made a name for herself behind the three-point line throughout her college career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Although she is leading the Fever in scoring through the first half of the 2024 WNBA season, her three-point efficiency has gone down a significant amount from college.
As the Fever get back into the thick of things with the month-long break for the 2024 Paris Olympics coming to a close, Indiana coach Christie Sides gave a positive update on Clark during Tuesday's practice session, noting what Clark has improved on throughout the past few weeks.
"Yeah, I think just the rest," Sides answered when asked how Clark's game could be elevated even more. "I think she was able to get her legs under her. You know, she's hitting shots. She's been going since her college season started last year, so just for her to get that rest, she didn't tell me she did a lot, so you just like put it out there."
Throughout her four-year college career, Clark made 37.7% of her 1,452 three-point attempts. In her WNBA rookie season, she is down to just 32.7% on 217 attempts. As Sides noted, the rest she received after the All-Star game may help Clark improve her shot-making when the season resumes next week.
One aspect of Clark's game that has transitioned nicely from college to the WNBA is her playmaking. She averaged 8.2 assists per game during her time with Iowa and is averaging the same amount through 26 WNBA games.
Clark and the Fever's next game will be against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday, August 16.
