Innovative Documentary 'The Tuba Thieves' to Screen at Kan-Kan Cinema

Film enthusiasts and community members are invited to an exclusive screening of "The Tuba Thieves" during the Indie Lens Pop-Up event hosted by WFYI Live. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, from 2pm to 4pm, at the charming Kan-Kan Cinema and Restaurant, located at 1258 Windsor St, Indianapolis, IN.

This engaging event will offer attendees a first look at the documentary before its official premiere on WFYI the following day. "The Tuba Thieves," directed by hard of hearing filmmaker Alison O’Daniel, delves into the intriguing role of sound and the concept of listening. The film's narrative unfolds through a series of tuba thefts in Los Angeles high schools, but the focus extends beyond the stolen instruments to a broader examination of sound perception, especially from the d/Deaf and hard of hearing communities.

The screening will include six excerpts from the film, followed by discussions and interactive activities that highlight d/Deaf and hard of hearing perspectives on sound, sight, and multimedia. Ensuring an inclusive experience, the film comes fully captioned, with ASL interpreters present for the entire event and live CART captioning available.
