Burlington Stores, a national discount retailer known for carrying major brand names for a fraction of the price, will open a new downtown Indianapolis location this fall.

Burlington, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, will open in the basement of the Claypool Court building at 110 West Washington Street. The space previously housed the 20,000-square-foot Rhythm! Discovery Center, an interactive drum and percussion museum run by the Percussive Arts Society, which is headquartered in Indianapolis.

In December 2022, a pipe burst on the third floor of the Claypool Court building, eventually trickling down and flooding the basement floor with two to three inches of water within 45 minutes.

Joshua Simonds, executive director of the museum and society, previously told IndyStar water issues had plagued the museum since it moved there in 2009. The water break resulted in thousands of dollars in damage and led the society to move out in search of a new location.

The Rhythm! Discovery Center still does not have a new home, an employee told IndyStar Monday.

This fall when the new Burlington moves into the museum's former home, it will be the brand's 19th location in Indiana.

Other Burlington stores in the Indianapolis metro area include Speedway, Plainfield, Castleton and U.S. 31 near Southport. A location at Washington Square Mall closed in 2020.
