After Brittney Griner suffered an injury during Friday's game between the Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever, fans couldn't help but raise concerns about her availability, particularly with the 2024 Olympics coming soon.

Griner is part of the USA women's basketball team that will represent the nation in the upcoming summer event in Paris. The WNBA season takes a break after the All-Star Game on July 20th to give way for the Olympics, which starts from July 26 and lasts until August 11.

Against the Fever, however, Griner sustained a groin injury that now puts her Olympics status in question. The Mercury center collided with teammate and fellow Olympian Kahleah Copper in the second quarter of the contest and didn't return.

While the severity of the injury has yet to be determined, several fans expressed their worries since there's a real possibility that she might not be able to recover in time for the quadrennial event.

Not to mention that a number of Team USA players are already dealing with injuries, such as Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier (aggravated plantar fasciitis), Griner's Mercury teammate Diana Taurasi (lower left leg issue) and New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart (right hamstring) .

"Collier and now Griner getting injuries just weeks before Olympics will be a huge loss for USA if those 2 aren't able to recover in time," a concerned fan noted.

Another frustrated Team USA supporter added, "So we've got [Taurasi, Collier and RHoward missing multiple games, Griner being ruled out tonight, and Stewart on New York's injury report for tomorrow. Are Team USA's Olympics squads still going to be Team USA's Olympic squads in two weeks?"

"You just hate to see it I hope Brittney will be good for [USA]," a commenter furthered.

A social media user shared, "I hope my love gets well soon and prepares well for the Olympics."

"Protect our national team at all costs pls pls," a fifth fan pleaded in desperation.

"Hopefully it’s not too serious and she will be back soon. Get better BG we love you," another commenter chimed in.

If Brittney Griner's groin injury is serious, she might need weeks to recover. And with just about two weeks left before the Olympics start, that puts her and Team USA in quite the difficult spot.

Hopes are high that it won't be the case. But if the worst-case scenario happens, USA basketball will have to make some roster decisions as soon as possible.
