Where Indianapolis Colts stand in NFL salary cap before training camp

With training camp just over a week away, the Indianapolis Colts still have some time to make a last-minute addition to the roster if they want to.

Under general manager Chris Ballard, the Colts have always been in good standing with the salary cap. For better or worse, Ballard has rarely gotten close to being in cap danger.

According to Over The Cap , the Colts currently have roughly $25.9 million in salary-cap space entering training camp — the 10th-most in the NFL.

Whether the Colts will want to use some of that salary-cap space to bring in a veteran remains to be seen. It doesn't appear likely, but there's always a small chance something happens.

Available on the free-agent market are players like Justin Simmons, Quandre Diggs and Stephon Gilmore. Any one of those three would help the Colts in the secondary, which is their biggest concern on the roster.

While the Colts have constantly talked about the faith they have in the young cornerback and safety rooms, adding some competition wouldn't hurt at all. This is especially true considering the high probability those veterans sign on for one year.

They also could look into possible extensions for players like Dayo Odeyingbo or Ryan Kelly, both of which are going into the final years of their respective contracts.

Either way, Ballard and the Colts have plenty of money to get some deals done if they want to ahead of training camp.
